LTIIA Contributes to the EU consultation on External Investment Plan

LTIIA joined the consultation on EU’s External Investment Plan (EIP), together with Commissioners Mogherini (External Action Service), Katainen (Investment and Growth) and Mimica (International Cooperation and Development). Helmut von Glasenapp, LTIIA Board Member and Deputy Secretary General of ELTI, presented our members’ comments.

The Plan aims to support investments in Africa and the European Neighbourhood countries, to promote a new model of participation of the private sector and contribute to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

We highlighted typical issues faced by private investors when deploying capital to infrastructure projects in that region, such as regulatory base weaknesses, currency, governance and ethical risks, and called for specific support measures through the EIP.

A deeper dialogue with Brussels will follow on all those topics.
